How To Find Good Apps on Windows Phone 7

Whether it is a smartphone or tablet, having the ability to get a good sense of what’s out there and what is not is important. Frustration occurs when you see an app that may have some potential but ends up lacking once you download it and start using it. Welcome to a world of hurt. More and more there are apps added to their respective market places/stores and searching through the junk and the treasure can be rather time consuming. Well, luckily there are apps that can help assist with such a task.

Windows Phone 7 (WP7) is among the newest of the bunch when it comes to mobile devices thus naturally there are fewer apps to dig through than say IOS or an Android device. Well WP7’s app list is growing day by day there are still many apps in the marketplace that plain suck.

An app called “AppFlow” is here to rescue you from the bad apples. AppFlow is a free application that helps users discover new applications by using four main sections to deliver an easy and effective interface. Technically, there are five sections featured, lists, categories, discover, and info but I think the info section can be left out.

When you first start up AppFlow you are greeted with the Featured section where you have a search bar to type whatever your heart desires. Just below that is the featured app of the day or every other day as it seems to change about every two days or so. Right after that is the New and Impressive list. This is by far the most useful feature in my opinion. By taping on the New and Impressive list it will organize apps that were currently released and have received the highest rating. The only downfall is that these apps will have very little total ratings due to those apps being released recently.

Sliding to the right will give you the List section. List will organize the apps several different ways to Top Apps, Games, and Noteworthy and so on. Categories will provide another type of list. Each of these is broken down into categories much like the market place already does. Discover allows you to enter in an app you already like and will search the marketplace for other apps that are similar to the one entered.  There are way too many different lists to talk about here in this review but it is great to know there are so many different options.

AppFlow is a great app to supplement the marketplace. Give it a go if you either looking for a new app to try or if you don’t like using the regular Windows Marketplace.  If you use this app already or are willing to give it a try, let me know in the comments below. Did you like it? Where there any issues with the application that you didn’t like? What app do you use for finding gems in the WP7 market place?
